Belt journey

A belt is a promise to keep learning

A new belt marks progress, and it also opens the next part of the curriculum. Each rank asks a student to build on what came before.

At Bulsajo, the belt path has eleven ranks, from white belt to first Dan black belt. Students develop one stage at a time through forms, basic techniques, self-defense, conditioning, and other parts of the curriculum. The exact material depends on the rank.

Stripes make progress visible

Between belt graduations, students work toward curriculum stripes. These give students and families smaller milestones to recognize along the way. They also help show which parts of the rank a student has practiced and completed.

Consistency matters more than rushing

Progress includes showing up, listening to feedback, practicing with care, and trying again when something is difficult. Students do not all move at the same pace. The instructor checks readiness against the school's current requirements and the student's learning.

A new rank is a new beginning

Graduation is a chance to celebrate the effort that brought a student to the next belt. Then the learning continues. A black belt is not a finish line; it marks the start of deeper study.

For the current rank list and requirements, use the detailed Bulsajo belt guide. For the graduation process and current eligibility details, see Graduation Day.
