What Kukkiwon Is
Kukkiwon opened in Seoul in 1972 and is the world headquarters of Taekwondo. It is the organization that sets and holds the standard: it runs the poom and dan promotion tests both inside Korea and internationally, trains and certifies instructors, keeps the Taekwondo research institute, fields the Kukkiwon demonstration team, and hosts the World Taekwondo Hanmadang each year.
Its certificates are the reason Taekwondo rank means the same thing in Belle Glade as it does in Seoul, São Paulo or Seville. A dan certificate is registered centrally, with a number, and it can be verified and reissued by the headquarters itself.

Bulsajo black belt ranks are registered through Kukkiwon. That is not decoration on a wall — it means the rank your child earns on our mats is on file at the world headquarters, under their own name, permanently.
If your family moves, if they go away to college, if they walk into a dojang on another continent twenty years from now, the belt still counts. They will not be asked to start over.
